Requirement details
Digital visa photograph
- Format: JPEG, JPG
- File size: — KB to 240 KB
- Pixels: 600×600 (max 1200×1200)
- Shape: 1:1
- Background: Plain white or off-white
- Head between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (22 mm and 35 mm), or 50% and 69% of the image height from chin to top of head. Color, 24 bits per pixel, sRGB.
- Eyeglasses are not allowed except a rare medical exception.
- JPEG, square, 600×600 to 1200×1200 pixels, 240 KB or smaller. If scanning a printed 2×2 inch photo, scan at 300 pixels per inch.
Printed photos for some visa interviews must be 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). This preset is the digital-upload specification: square JPEG, 600–1200 px, 240 KB or less. The Department of State photo tool crops to 600 × 600 px. Confirm the portal while applying.
